After an extraordinary career devoted to preserving sight and improving lives, we honor the retirement of Dr. Rivera, a remarkable retina specialist whose expertise and compassion have made a lasting impact on so many.

Dr. Rivera brought not only exceptional skill to the field of retinal care, but also a calming presence and deep empathy for every patient. In moments that could feel uncertain or overwhelming, patients found reassurance in Dr. Rivera’s clarity, patience, and unwavering dedication. The gift of helping others see more clearly is profound—and Dr. Rivera carried that responsibility with both excellence and heart.

As Dr. Rivera begins this well-earned new chapter, we extend our deepest gratitude and warmest wishes for a retirement filled with joy, relaxation, and many bright days ahead.

Dr. Pedro M. Rivera obtained his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico, graduating Magna Cum Laude as a member of the medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Dr. Rivera finished his Ophthalmology Residency at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. serving as Chief Resident during his final year. He also completed a Fellowship in Retinal Diseases at the same institution, where he later served as clinical instructor. He has been in private practice since 1998, and has special interests in Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Hypertensive Retinopathy, Vascular Retinal Diseases and Retinal Detachments.

Dr. Rivera served as a member of the Board of Trustees of Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington. Prevention of Blindness is the largest local prevention of blindness agency in the U.S., and is dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education and innovation in a not for profit model.

Dr. Rivera is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  He is fully fluent in English and Spanish.
