Amsler Grid Test
1/ What is Amsler Grid?
The Amsler grid is a simple square containing a grid pattern and a dot in the middle. When used correctly—once a day, every day—the Amsler grid can show problem spots in your field of vision, which can help to detect new issue or worsening of your macular degeneration
2/ How to use Amsler Grid:
To perform an Amsler grid test, wear your reading glasses, hold the grid at eye level roughly 12–14 inches away in good light, and cover one eye. Focus strictly on the center dot, observing if any lines appear wavy, broken, or distorted. Repeat for both eyes individually, ideally weekly, to detect central vision changes. You can test by open this page on your flat screen computer, or on your phone.
3/ How to know if the result is normal or abnormal:
A normal eye will usually see all the lines as straight. In contrast, an eye with abnormal retina (wet AMD, severe dry AMD, etc.,) will often see some of the lines as curved or even blocked out by a gray, white, or black region.
